Our cabins

Two quiet places in the trees

With our partners, we can offer bereaved parents a few free nights in one of two off-grid cabins, set on 350 acres of woodland and meadow in Westmeath. An hour from Dublin, and a world away.

The original digital-detox cabin, at the edge of a forest

Off-grid, offline and off the beaten track. A small black cabin nestled at the forest's edge, where you wake to birdsong and huge picture windows framing the woodland outside.

The most unusual of our cabins. Big round windows frame the wildlife outside, the king-size bed sits up on a mezzanine, and a copper roll-top bath waits on the deck for starry evenings.

Questions

Things parents ask us

Who can ask for a stay?

Any parent who has lost a child. It doesn't matter how long ago it was, or how old your child was — there's no window that closes. If someone close to you would find it easier to ask on your behalf, that's fine too.

Can we bring our children?

Not on these stays, and we're sorry — we know that isn't the answer you were hoping for.

Our stays are for bereaved parents: a little dedicated time and space for yourselves and your grief, whether that's together as a couple or on your own. For that reason the stays we fund are parent-only, and we aren't able to include children.

We have a young child ourselves now, so we do understand how complicated that can feel — the pull between wanting time and space to remember your child, and not wanting, or simply not being in a position, to leave the children still at home.

If it means a stay isn't possible for you just now, yours will still be here whenever the time feels right.

What does a stay cost?

Nothing. A stay is free for bereaved parents — we arrange it with our partners and cover the nights, and there is nothing to pay to us or to them.

How much notice do you need?

Around two weeks, if you can manage it. That gives us the best chance of securing the dates you'd prefer. If you need somewhere sooner than that, ask anyway and we'll do what we can.

What if now isn't the right time?

Then it isn't, and that's completely all right. There's no deadline on a stay and no pressure at all to use it — this year, next year, or whenever the time feels right. It will still be here.

What happens after we ask?

We'll come back to you, and settle the details together — which cabin, and which dates suit. Everything after that we arrange with our partners. There's no long form, nothing to prove, and nothing you have to explain.

Can we bring our dog?

To Saoirse, yes. Cucu isn't dog friendly, so if your dog is coming it's Saoirse for you. Either way, just say so when you ask.

Anything we haven't answered, or anything you'd rather ask quietly, comes to corarosefoundation@gmail.com.
