The cabin

Inside Cucu

Cucu is the most unique cabin in the Samsú series — and, they'd argue, in Ireland. Nestled on the edge of a forest, you'll wake to morning birdsong and big round windows framing the wildlife outside. The king-size sleeping area sits upstairs on a mezzanine, with a net at the end of the bed to read in, nap in, or just lie back, listen to the cassette player, and watch the world go by.

Completely off-grid, Cucu has a fully equipped kitchen — two hobs, a fridge, and everything you need to cook a favourite meal, inside or out. Built for going analogue, you'll arrive to a phone lockbox, a film camera, an old Nokia for emergencies, board games, books, and a few other essentials for a few nights of slow living. There's an indoor log burner, an outdoor fire pit, and a copper roll-top bath for those starry evenings. Every stay also includes a complimentary three-hour session in the forest sauna.

Who Cucu suits

Only an hour from Dublin, Cucu is for anyone who needs to properly switch off and spend real time in nature. It comes with the signature Samsú analogue kit, and no Wi-Fi, of course.

It's also a place for anyone who loves a beautiful room. Cucu was designed by Studio Bucky and has been featured in Dezeen, Dwell and others for its architecture and interiors. Every detail has been made for living analogue.

About Samsú

Samsú make small, off-grid cabins for going analogue: no Wi-Fi, a phone lockbox, a film camera, a wood stove, and a sauna in the forest. Both cabins share the same land near Athboy, a five-minute walk apart and far enough that you'll never see each other. We're grateful to them for opening their doors to the families we care for.

Around the cabin

What's there to do

You're on the edge of Ireland's Ancient East. A short drive north brings you into the Boyne Valley and Newgrange — a 5,000-year-old passage tomb, older than the pyramids. Closer to home, just outside Athboy, is the Hill of Ward, an Iron Age royal site and the ancient home of the Samhain fires.

And the 350 acres around the cabin are yours to wander whenever you'd rather not drive at all. Samsú's own advice is that the cabin is best enjoyed by not leaving it.

Getting to the cabin

Once a stay is arranged, Samsú send a what3words pin to find the cabin. For now, it's enough to know it sits on the Meath and Westmeath border, between Athboy and Delvin.

By car

80 km from Dublin — about an hour's drive.

By public transport

Around 1 hour 45 from Busáras on the 111 bus, with a ten-minute taxi at the end. Check the timetable for the day you're travelling and book the taxi ahead so nobody is left waiting.
