The cabin

Inside Saoirse

Saoirse is the original Samsú digital-detox cabin. Off-grid, offline, and off the beaten track, it's nestled on the edge of a forest, where you'll wake to morning birdsong and huge picture windows framing the woodland outside.

There's a fully equipped kitchen — two hobs, a mini fridge, and everything you need to cook a favourite meal, inside or out. Built for going analogue, you'll arrive to a phone lockbox, a film camera, an old Nokia for emergencies, board games, books, and a few other essentials for a few nights of slow living. There's an indoor log burner, an outdoor fire pit, and an outdoor bath in the forest for starry evenings. Every stay also includes a complimentary three-hour session in the forest sauna.

Who Saoirse suits

Only an hour from Dublin, Saoirse is for anyone who needs to properly switch off and spend real time in nature. If you love forest bathing and woodland walks — or would like to bring your dog — this is your cabin.

It comes with the signature Samsú analogue kit, and no Wi-Fi, of course. As the original Samsú cabin it's the purest version of the idea — no architectural showpiece, just you, the trees, and the quiet.

About Samsú

Samsú make small, off-grid cabins for going analogue: no Wi-Fi, a phone lockbox, a film camera, a wood stove, and a sauna in the forest. Both cabins share the same land near Athboy, a five-minute walk apart and far enough that you'll never see each other. We're grateful to them for opening their doors to the families we care for.

Around the cabin

What's there to do

You're on the edge of Ireland's Ancient East. A short drive brings you to Newgrange and the Boyne Valley — a 5,000-year-old passage tomb, older than the pyramids — and to the Hill of Ward just outside Athboy, an Iron Age royal site and the ancient home of the Samhain fires.

But Saoirse's real pull is closer in: 350 acres of native woodland and meadow on the doorstep, to wander whenever you'd rather not drive at all. Samsú's own advice is that the cabin is best enjoyed by not leaving it.

Getting to the cabin

Once a stay is arranged, Samsú send a what3words pin to find the cabin. For now, it's enough to know it sits on the Meath and Westmeath border, between Athboy and Delvin.

By car

80 km from Dublin — about an hour's drive.

By public transport

Around 1 hour 45 from Busáras on the 111 bus, with a ten-minute taxi at the end. Check the timetable for the day you're travelling and book the taxi ahead so nobody is left waiting.

Cucu

The most unusual of our cabins. Big round windows frame the wildlife outside, the king-size bed sits up on a mezzanine, and a copper roll-top bath waits on the deck for starry evenings.
